Electric Bench
hand electric drills with larger than 13mm chuck?
I am looking to buy a normal elecric hand drill (not bench drill) that has a chuck to take bits larger than 13mm. So far the only drills I have seen have chucks of 13mm. Does anyone know if it is possibly to buy or fit a chuck larger than 13mm to an orginary hand drill?
Instead of trying to find something that may not be available, you might be better off to get bits with a turned down shank.
But, the drills usually have a chuck that is compatible with the power of the drill motor, so running anything larger may tend to overheat themotor and cause early failure.
I have seen and used some larger commercial drills with a 5/8" chuck,a nd one hammer drill with a 3/4 chuck, but that was many years back. If I remember correctly they were made by the brand name of "Thor".
