Building Sale

My private 'church' has closed and building is being sold. Where can/can't proceeds from sale go to?
Can previous members of congregation shrae out the proceeds? The members bought the building in a private sale originally.
It would depend on the by-laws of the church/organization. To have a tax exempt status, which most church do, there would have to be by-laws.
